Can OLI
Townhouse "Can Oli" and its location
The completely refurbished "Can Oli" townhouse with five residential units is located on Calle Banc de l'Oli in the heart of the old town. The Plaza Mayor can be reached in a minute, yet the location between the pedestrian street and shopping street Calle Sindicat and the Plaza del Banc de l'Oli is very quiet. Calle San Miguel, one of the most beautiful shopping streets in Mallorca, is a 2-minute walk away, while the large Mercat Olivar covered market is just under 5 minutes away.
The other in-quarters of the capital as well as banks, supermarkets, bakers, butchers, cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques are within walking distance in a few minutes.
Plaza del Banc de l'Oli
At Plaza Banc de l'Oli begins the street where Canoli is located. Although only a few meters away from the Plaza Major, the Plaza del Banc de l'Oli offers almost complete tranquility and its own, in contrast to the Plaza Major, more individual but no less beautiful architecture. Some houses, which can be seen from the small green area in the middle of the square, offer beautiful facades.
The name and historical relevance of the place date back to the Middle Ages and its guilds: in a closed area of the square there was a bank for the trade in olive oil that had been pressed on lands of the island. The floral elements of the façade of the most northerly house from 1907 also refer to these times.
In the center of the square is a small green space with orange trees, donated by the Jewish community in October 1988, as a sign of respect and affection for the city of Palma and its historical importance to the community. In the center of the oval, there is also a statue of the sculptor RemÃgia Caubet representing the intellectual and urban designer Pere d'Alcà ntara, a poet and dramaturge. Pere d'Alcà ntara was responsible for one of the enlargement plans for Palma, which was partially implemented in the Santa Catalina district.
Details to Oli
The building was acquired by a Malloquin family in late 2015. In spring 2016, a complex refurbishment process began. On the one hand, care was taken to preserve the original character and, as far as possible, the historical elements of the facade and the load-bearing walls of Mares (sandstone); on the other hand, the building was extensively refurbished and equipped with all the comforts of a modern luxury property.
